The Contract
The Training Contract is the standard Law Society Contract (Version
7).
Starting salary for a Trainee Solicitor is £500 above the Law Society's recommended level. There is no LPC sponsorship by the firm.
Every Trainee Solicitor receives a six monthly appraisal from
the Training Partner based upon feedback from their department
head for the last seat. These appraisals are conducted in accordance
with the Law Society Guidelines and offer the Trainee opportunity
of commenting upon the training they are receiving as well as
obtaining feedback upon their performance.
Training
Every Trainee will obtain a full and rounded training within
the firm spending four x6 monthly seats within the firm in one
of the following departments:
Litigation
Family
Criminal
Company/Commercial
Property
Employment
Commercial Property
Private Client
The final seat of Training
will be the Trainee’s choice. Trainees are provided with
the opportunity to return to their preferred seat (usually the
area into which they wish to qualify).
Ethos
At Hegarty LLP we attempt to integrate our Trainee Solicitors
into the firm as quickly and smoothly as possible by allocating
every new Trainee a mentor to whom they may go with basic queries,
problems or just to chat. This will usually be a newly qualified
solicitor who has just come through the training process themselves
and so know of the problems and concerns a new Trainee may have.
In addition to the Trainee’s mentor, they will also be
allocated a Training Principal to whom they may go with more
involved queries or concerns and who shall be responsible for
the Trainee’s training and development.
Retention of Trainees
Upon Qualification
At Hegarty LLP we pride ourselves upon training confident,
knowledgeable and well prepared newly qualified solicitors.
For this reason we like to keep our Trainees upon completion
of their training and integrate them within a specialist department
within the firm.
Further, five of the current ten Partners are former Trainees
with the firm!
