Agency Worker Regulations - The Guidance Notes
DeafBlind UK Centre, Hampton, Peterborough. Thursday 9th June 2011
Last year's seminar covering the Agency Workers Regulations proved to be very popular and this year's update covering the recently issued Guidance Notes even more so. In conjunction with Anne Corder Recruitment, Martin Bloom of Hegarty LLP covered many practical examples of how these regulations may be integrated in the workplace and some of the main issues likely to arise. The handout can be downloaded here, although we would stress that as a complex piece of legislation the real issues will only become apparent once the regulations are implemented 1st October 2011. We strongly advise you to seek legal advice for best practice guidance. For future notifications of HR / Employment Law events contact angela.babb@hegarty.co.uk.

Annual Employment Law Breakfast Briefing - Peterborough, Tuesday 28th September 2010

In its 15th year and recognised as a key date in the business calendar, this year's update focused on the Equality Act 2010.
Delegates were also updated on the possible effects of the withdrawal of the default retirement age.
“The introduction of the Equality Act this Friday – October 1 – spells the end of a number of other acts brought in over the last 40 years to protect against discrimination including on the grounds of race, sex, religion and disability,” Martin Bloom, Hegarty LLP’s employment partner, told delegates. “This act introduces an umbrella covering all the previous acts and widening the parameters.
“The overall principle of the new laws is ‘fairness’ and its objective is that everyone has the right to be treated fairly and to fulfil their potential.”
Tim Thompson, also from Hegarty LLP, updated delegates who attended the event at the East of England Showground on the removal of the default retirement age – another sweeping change HR professionals are involved in implementing.
“Potentially retirement will cease except where the employee wishes to stop work,” explained Tim. “This is a big change for companies to deal with and it’ll take a long time to see the full effects filtering through both for companies and the economy as a whole.”
Anne Corder said: “These are very important issues which companies need to be dealing with and as usual Martin and Tim gave us some very valid pointers to take away. Once again, it was good to welcome so many people and to see the interest generated by the subject matter. As HR professionals we can’t afford to let any legislation pass us by. We will now be working with our clients to ensure they have the necessary steps in place to implement the changes.”
The handout is available to download here and an audio podcast of the speakers:
