Celebrating 40 years with ambitious charity target
Hegarty Solicitors first opened its doors on 15th October 1974 and in celebration of the firm's 40th anniversary in 2014 the partners and staff took on the ambitious challenge to raise £10,000 for Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall Hospice.
Thorpe Hall Hospice is a vital resource for local people. The fantastic staff provide care and respite for seriously ill people and their families from Cambridgeshire, Rutland, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. Since launching the appeal for the new building Thorpe Hall has raised over £3 million and they are in the second stage of development. For more information about the incredible care and why the new building is so vital please visit the Thorpe Hall website here.
The fun – and fundraising – started straight away with an office quiz, continued with collections of unwanted items to donate to local Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall shops and led to an Easter bake sale.
The World Cup in June provided an excuse for a dress down day by which time training for first time Great Eastern Runners Ashley Kidd and Alison Ayling was in full swing. Emma Carter tackled the Stamford 10k race while life-long nail biter Yvonne Miller grew talons in return for sponsorship.
The big push for the firm came in September when 33 of the staff – more than half of the team - gave up their weekend to head to Wales and tackle a trek up the country’s highest peak, Snowdon. For some this was a personal challenge, beating vertigo and crippling arthritis, for others it was a team event to relish. Every single person made it to the top – and back down again safely.
Then it was time for the gala evening to mark the 40th anniversary. An auction and raffle on the night boosted the fundraising target significantly with yet more being poured into the coffers by a Christmas jumper day and a Lights of Love tree in both of Hegarty’s offices.
A year after launching their anniversary challenge, Hegarty’s partners dropped into Thorpe Hall Hospice to hand over a cheque, on behalf of all the staff, for £22,126 – doubling their original target.
Richard Hegarty, who started the firm in Peterborough in 1974, said: “Everyone here is incredibly proud of what we have achieved. Some individuals conquered fears, others physical limitations in order to attract sponsorship for Thorpe Hall.
“The fact we have more than doubled our original target of £10,000 is testament to the hard work, enthusiasm and determination of everyone involved. We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our sponsors, clients and supporters – a lot of clients and suppliers really got behind us because it’s a cause so close to people’s hearts.
“This has been a fitting tribute to mark our 40th year in business and has, perhaps more importantly, brought together the team in achieving a common goal for an incredible local facility.”
