Greg Baker passed the Chartered Institute of Bankers Trustee Diploma in 1984. After working in the banking industry for many years, he qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and became a partner in Hegarty Solicitors in 2006.
His expertise lies in complex wills, probate, powers of attorney, care fee funding issues, continuing NHS healthcare issues and personal capital taxation advice. Greg is also able to advise on estate planning through Pilot Trusts for lump sum pension death benefits and other trust arrangements - for example writing life assurance policies under trust to cover potential Inheritance Tax liabilities.
Greg has dealt with a number of Estates that include farms and has made successful claims for agricultural property relief in respect of the farm house. He has prepared Wills for a number of farming clients with a view to ensuring smooth succession planning and has prepared Powers of Attorney for farming clients.
With over 30 years’ experience - including within the private client departments of a major UK bank and an offshore bank – and having administered numerous multi-million pound estates, complex probate matters including business interests and overseas assets, Greg brings a unique level of knowledge, especially for clients who are non-UK resident and hold UK assets.
Greg is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and was an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Law Society’s Private Client Section from July 2008 to July 2014. His extensive experience means he features as a regular speaker on wills, care funding, Inheritance Tax and Lasting Powers of Attorney to local groups.
