We have a dedicated charity committee who organise a number of fundraising events throughout the year. This year our nominated charity of the year is the Matt Hampson Foundation.
Matt Hampson was a former rugby player who suffered a serious spinal injury during a training session for England under 21s in 2005. As a result, he is now paralysed from the neck down. He grew up in Rutland and played for Oakham Rugby Club as a young lad, and went on to play for Leicester Tigers before joining the England team.
Since his injury, Matt has dedicated his time and energy into setting up a support network for those who have suffered life-changing injuries and established the Matt Hampson Foundation in 2010. Through fundraising and support, the Matt Hampson Foundation has managed to set up a “Get Busy Living Centre” in Melton which provides rehabilitation equipment for those who have suffered debilitating injuries.
“Get Busy Living” is the ethos that Matt Hampson now lives his life by and encompasses into the Foundation, and on top of providing assistance, advice and support, amongst many other things, he continues to coach at Oakham School and Oakham Rugby Club.
