Hegarty Solicitors has achieved four first tier rankings in the latest edition of the Legal 500, the leading independent guide to the UK’s best lawyers and firms.
Hegarty Solicitors’ Corporate and Commercial, Criminal Law, Commercial Litigation and Trust and Probate departments all achieved the top tier one ranking in the latest edition of the Legal 500 which was published recently.

Hegarty Solicitors’ corporate and commercial team is among those ranked in the first tier. Legal 500 praises partner Andrew Heeler’s ‘remarkable technical knowledge’ which makes him ‘the go-to guy for heavyweight legal issues’. The team regularly advise clients on multi-million pound acquisitions and disposals, group restructures and complex commercial contracts.
Commercial Litigation is another area where Hegarty Solicitors achieved the highest possible ranking. Recommended as ‘a fantastic firm’, the Legal 500 goes on to describe Hegarty Solicitors as ‘streets ahead for its rare combination of outstanding legal judgement and sound commercial advice’. Partners Matthew Sidebottom and Kally Singh are singled out for being ‘extremely commercially minded’ lawyers who make ‘formidable allies’.
The directory also praises Hegarty Solicitors’ Personal Tax, Trust and Probate department which provides ‘outstanding service and good value’. Partner Greg Baker is particularly recommended for his ‘quick responses and high-quality advice’. The department has recently advised on several complex, multi-million pound probate cases involving private company shareholdings.
The criminal law department was also recommended. According to the Legal 500, the ‘dedicated’ Sarah Acres provides ‘a consistently top level of service’, as do Julie Murtagh and Sara Young, who are ‘client focused, realistic and efficient.’
Hegarty Solicitors’ family, employment, commercial property and debt recovery departments also received positive feedback, achieving tier two rankings in the report. The family law department is described as ‘one of the most experienced in Peterborough’ with a growing workload. Hugh Nicholls and Richard Hegarty were both recommended in property, having advised on purchases and sales of ‘substantial premises’ worth several million pounds. The property department has enjoyed a fantastic year, and remains one of Hegarty Solicitors’ largest and most profitable departments in spite of the stagnant property market and slow economic growth.
