Government relaxes rules on unused annual leave due to COVID-19

Employment Law

The Government has recently announced that it will allow workers to be able to carry over up to 4 weeks of unused holiday into the next two leave years.

The new amendments will ensure workers such as key workers can continue carrying out their duties and ensure their holiday leave entitlements are protected.

Additionally, the changes will also allow employers to better manage their workforce, by allowing workers to carry over their leave during a time when granting annual leave could result in the workplaces being short-staffed.

The changes will amend the Working Time Regulations which have an impact on the majority of workers, including agency workers, zero-hour contract workers and those that work irregular hours.
